A Sindhi activist who has zealously worked in the US to
safeguard Sindh’s rights and whose brother and nephew were killed by the
infamous ISI raised the voice for Hindu girls, who are facing sexual slavery in Pakistan in the US Congress.
The renowned activist Munawar “Sufi” Leghari, executive
director of the Sindhi Foundation, addressing Subcommittee on Asia and Pacific
of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, said, “Twenty young girls are
missing from their homes in Sindh and have joined the ranks of jihadis of Daesh
abroad” for against the US and that two million Pakistani kids are being
brainwashed against the values of human
rights freedom and for jihad on a daily basis in scores of madressahs or Islamic
seminaries all over Pakistan.
The most heart wrenching part of Sufi Leghari’s testimony
pertained to the plight of the Hindus and sexual slavery of Hindu girls in southeastern province.
“Young Hindu women
are being forcibly converted to Islam and made sex slaves for Islamic
extremists with the help of local extremists, the so-called spiritual leaders
of certain shrines and Mullahs in Sindh. Hindu women and girls, some as young
as 12 and 13, are kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam and married despite
legislation against child marriages in Sindh,” Sufi Leghari said.
“The Pakistani army
and intelligence agencies have never treated Sindhi Hindus as equal to Muslim
citizens,” Leghari said. “Judges are either silent or biased. Parental refusal to
marry their 12 or 13 year old daughters is ruled as blasphemy,” he added.
As a result of social
stigma and disgrace, the parents of girl victims have no other option but to
migrate to other countries, preferably to India, he said. “Thus, Hindu
communities in Sindh are reducing in number due to these forced marriages of
their young girls. To be a Hindu parent of a young girl means to write off your
daughter into forced conversion and forced marriage,” Leghari deplored. “It is
a pre-planned, national conspiracy that pro-jihadis call “purify the land of the
pure of the Hindus”.
“So-called pro-Islamist jihadi spiritual leaders and
mullahs, who are instrumental in forced conversions of young Hindu girls, are
backed by the Pakistani military and the ISI”
He said Daesh (ISIS) is infesting universities in Sindh and
recruiting young women for war in Syria and Iraq or even as sex companions to
the terrorists of Daesh. Twenty young girls are missing from their homes in
Sindh and have joined the ranks of jihadis of Daesh abroad. One example is
young girl, Norain Laghari, who was arrested from Lahore while plotting suicide
attacks. Norain was kept under military patronage and pardoned.
He cited Hafiz Saeed, in his infamous sermon delivered in
Thar said, “We want to convert their women to Islam, kill their men, and
recruit Sindhi Muslim youths to fight against India.” In Mithi, the district
headquarters of Tharparkar, Hafiz Saeed has illegally occupied, and allotted
the land of a local girls college to construct a madressah. He added two Hindu
youths were gunned, down but their killers have not yet been arrested.
He informed the US Congress, people of Sindh are delighted
with recent steps to stop military aid to Pakistan and urged the US congress to
declared Declare the Pakistani Army and intelligence agencies as rogue forces
that promote and protect inhuman and anti-US jihadi forces. They have become a
threat to the peace and security of South Asia and the civilized world.
“Over two years ago, the Pakistani military and its
intelligence agencies assassinated my only brother, Dr. Anwar Laghari, a law
abiding, non-violent, political activist and social worker, after I wrote a
letter to President Obama while former Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel
Sharif was visiting White House,” Sufi Leghari, who has been a thorn in the
Pakistani Deep State, told the Congress. “This past October, my young nephew,
Asad Laghari, who was one of few water experts in the country, was found “dead
under mysterious conditions” as stated by police. His murder mystery is an open
secret as he was murdered by Pakistani military and intelligence agencies... No
investigation was conducted, and no arrests were made in the murders of my
brother and nephew.” (Read Leghari’s full testimony here).
AFB demands USCIRF to help free Aarti Sharma, 20
As Leghari spoke to the US congress, the rpremier American Friends of Balochistan was engaged in a full-fledged campaign in Washington DC to help the Hindu and Christian girls in Pakistan. Senior AFB member and former CEO of the UN Sustainable Energy Mohinder Gulati wrote to the USCIRF leadership about barbaric treatment of girls of minorities in Pakistan.
“So called religious leaders in collusion with rich, powerful, and criminal elements in the society brazenly abduct young girls and women at gun point and force them to convert and marry. Pakistan police and courts not only side with the perpetrators of crime but provide them protection,” Gulati informed Erin D. Singshinsuk, Executive Director, USCIRF and Elizabeth K. Cassidy, Director of International Law & Policy. “A recent case of abduction of Aarti Kumari Sharma, 20, in front of her family on September 9 in Khairpur district is one of the series of such cases that have been happening with frightening regularity with no action by the government and the courts,” he said, adding, “Life for young girls of minorities in Pakistan has become a living hell since they have to choose between subjecting themselves to sexual slavery of their abductors or face persecution of their families.”
Gulati urged USCIRF must rise up to its mandate, get independent review and report of treatment of girls and women of minorities in Pakistan, and encourage US government and international community to take action against Pakistan. “Hoping you would take this matter seriously and at a minimum ask Pakistan government to secure release of Aarti Kumari Sharma from her abductors,” urged Gulati.
Even as Gulati was demanding justice, yet another Hindu girl was abducted and forcibly converted. "Nisha daughter of Deewan Mal was abducted from Mandir Ghali in Pano Aqil three days ago, but today she was at Bharchundi Sharif and got converted," said Hindu rights defender raj Kumar. "Is this not genocide of Hindus in Pakistan?" he asked.
