Baloch activist arrested in Sweden
"They came inside the shop to to check illegal workers. As per routine, they checked customers identity papers also," Zahid Baloch responded when I asked him on Facebook message if he was drunk.
Zahid Baloch, a political activist, is now langusihing in a detention center and if Sweden sends him back to Pakistan, he will certainly land into the jaws of death. His asylum hearing is just 20 days away.
US military historian Dr. Robert Darius PhD., a senior member of the American Friends of Balochistan, has written to the Swedish ambassador to the US asking her to help Zahid Baloch as he was tortured in Pakistan.
This writer himself faced a strange dilemma way back in 2010 when he was travelling in Sweden on a passport from Pakistan as he had not gotten his US citizenship then. He was made to disembark from a passenger bus and taken to a detention center 60 miles away by the police simply because he had overstayed a few more hours than his Shenzen visa allowed him to. He was allowed to go but had to buy a new ticket unnecessarily.
Media reports suggest Sweden is increasingly becoming racist as Islamists try to impose their values on Sweden.
However, Zahid Baloch has got nothing to do with Islamists as he was a secular Baloch political activist back in Pakistan, fighting for Baloch rights. He was tortured because of that in Pakistan. In Sweden, he is an activist of the leftist Rättvisepartiet Socialistern.
Like in Balochistan, Zahib Baloch appears to have become a crusader for the rights of the oppressed even in Sweden.
Kristopher Lundberg, a leader of the Rättvisepartiet Socialistern in a post demanded immediate release and asylum for Zahid Baloch. Lundberg wrote Zahid " is very afraid of the situation and the future. Being locked into a small space gives him the feeling to be back in the Pakistani torture cell. He says he relives the beatings, sexual abuse and electric shocks every time he closes his eyes."
