Dr T. Chand urges American Baloch unity on enforced disappearances

A former minister in the cabinet of Balochistan chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal has called upon all Baloch in the United states to unite upon the single point agenda of securing the freedom of Baloch victims of enforced disappearances.

Dr T. Chand, who was excise and taxation minister in the government of Sardar Mengal, in a phone talk with this correspondent Monday said the tragedy of the families of the victims of enforced disappearances is a huge one and all Baloch, especially American Baloch, who are leading a comfortable life must come together on this single point agenda to help their loved ones.

Dr Chand, who is originally from Usta Mohammed, hosts Baloch politicians who visit the US and last year he was the host of sardar Mengal and had along with Mengal visited Congressman Brad Sherman. Within 24 hours of Mengal meeting Sherman, the chief of the al Qaeda branch in Balochistan’s  Shafeeq Mengal launched a rocket attack on the residence of Mengal in Wadh.

Pakistan seemed to have learned the art of enforced disappearances from the US law enforcement agencies after the 911 attacks. These US agencies abducted scores of al Qaeda militants in Pakistan with the help of Pakistani agencies without due process.

“There was this incident of the rape of a minor girl Zainab in Punjab and the whole of Pakistan was up in arms. But countless Baloch, including kids, have been disappeared by the Pakistani security agencies and there is not even a whimper,” he said, adding, “This shows Baloch activists in the West have failed to do their job right if Pakistan is not brought to the dock on this issue.”
